The mother stood looking at me and her son-
Him, snuggled in the crook of my arms,
His head warm in my chest as I
Rock him- back and forth.
I feel his steady breathing
Like the world ended and all is well
“I feel like I’m missing a lot,” she said.
As she smoothen her skirt, her high-heels on her hand
And bid me goodnight. She’s actually a bit late for her date.
I waved her, “have a good time” as I rock her son – back and forth
Until his breath let me believe, too, that time stood still and all is well.
Although, I feel like I’m missing a lot.
